Emily Cordz Job Title Swim Personal Trainer Group and Water Fitness Instructor Swim Instructor About I’m happier in the water than on land. Growing up, I pursued any and all in-water activities that were available to me. Swim team, synchronized (artistic) swimming and water polo were standards. I sought out certifications like PADI Skin Diver as soon as I was old enough and likewise with my SCUBA certifications. While I also enjoy participating in land-based sports, I didn’t fall in love with any until I discovered aerials while I was in university at UW. Along the way, my coaches recognized my ability to support others in their own skill development and encouraged me in that area. I started instructing basic swimming in 2000, artistic swimming in 2005, aerials in 2008, and water exercise in 2010. I continued various aspects of these while earning my Master in Teaching Math and Science and teaching secondary science in different locations. Since choosing to leave the classroom, I have greatly enjoyed being able to help support others in their swimming and fitness goals. When not at Riverside, I enjoy gardening, baking, reading, hiking, crafting and motorcycling. Training Philosophy I believe exercise should develop your confidence and help support making your everyday life more enjoyable and fun. The wonderful thing about swimming is that it is truly a lifelong skill that is available to everyone from young children to centenarians. There are so many mental and physical benefits to be gained through swimming and exercising in the water, especially when you know how to work with the water rather than fighting against it. I love helping others discover how to improve their in-water movements and skills and seeing how those benefits carry over into other parts of their lives. Ideal Client My ideal client is someone who wants to improve their water skills, confidence and is willing to challenge themselves. Maybe you want to be able to be more comfortable snorkeling on your next vacation. Perhaps you want to improve the swim portion of your next triathlon. Or you want to be a competitive applicant to a selective program that has a swim requirement. Or maybe you just want to bring some more fluidity, variation and joy while reducing your risk of injury to your personal swim workouts. Results Past clients have reported an increase in confidence in themselves and enjoyment in and around water as well as in their general lives with things such as getting accepted into a rescue diver program, or improving their triathlon times, or being able to bike to the top of a hill on their regular ride without stopping. Additionally, they notice increased total body strength, improved cardiovascular health as well as better mobility and flexibility.
